Task Detail

Ensure everything is set up
On Saturday, (October 3, 2009) the ATM contractor will deliver tables and chairs to the METRO Lower Bus Terminal (B) at the Pentagon. The contractor will set up tables and chairs according the layout for the 13 Garment Check Stations . Each station is set to specified race number range. You will assist the contractor, affixing all race signage at each station.

Provide volunteers with instructions regarding task
Volunteers will arrive at 5:30 AM. You will instruct volunteers about the day ahead.

  • Runners retrieve a clear plastic bag from tables in front of the garment area. Runners place clothing in bag - and remove the attached the Garment Tag from the top portion of their race bib and secure the bag tightly.
  • Show volunteers how they store the numbered bag in the corresponding row along the ground located in the corresponding garment section.
  • Remind volunteers that for security reasons, they can not accept non-clear bags from runners .
  • Direct volunteers to gather clothing left at the finish line; and move this clothing to the lost and found. (If the clothing is left following the race, work with volunteers to lay clothing in grassy area and then help contractor in removing clothing.)

Balance resources while monitoring bottlenecks
Expect bottlenecks if all of the runners of a section arrive at once. Work with volunteers to keep traffic flowing. Your job is to prevent runner back-up during garment drop-off and pick-up.

Coordinate with ATM representative
You will be provided with a Land Mobile Radio (LMR) to support coordination (pick up at check-in). Work with your volunteers to ensure there are no unidentified bags. If you find any suspicious bags, contact the ATM Race Operations Center (ROC) by way of the LMR for assistance.

Support breakdown of site
At the conclusion of the race volunteers and ATM contractors work together:

  • Box all unclaimed clothing for pick-up and return to the ATM office
  • Direct the ATM Volunteers to collect all trash items in the general area for the crews to pick up
  • ATM contractor break down all tables and chairs and clean up the area. Assist with cleaning up the immediate area.
