Army Ten-Miler - Award Ceremony Coordinator
Position Overview
At the award ceremony recognition is given to the top runners and wheelchairs participants of the Army Ten-Miler (ATM). The master of ceremony is the ATM Announcer (Ken Berger) and the prepared script is developed by ATM. The Award Coordinator will oversee the ceremony to ensure the timeline is followed and that the stage is properly set up and awards are in presentation order. The Award Ceremony Coordinator provides assistance to the ATM Announcer and serves to provide direction to the Award Tent Lead.
On Sunday, at 10:00 AM the Individual Awards sheets are delivered to the award stage and the Team Awards are delivered at 10:00 AM. The top winners assemble at 11:00 AM at the side of the stage. These winners include the first wheelchair male and female, top three males and females, first master (age 40 and over) male and female. The first place team in each division will receive their award on the stage. Other additional award winners (individual awards for the age groups and the second through third place teams) will pick up trophies from the award tent to the right of the stage. ATM lead sponsors will participate in the award presentations.
Time/Location Information
The Award Coordinator and Award Tent Lead sign in on race day at the Volunteer Check-in Tent in the South Pentagon Parking Lot Lane 21 at 6 AM and report to the Award Stage / Award Tent at 6:15 AM.
Key Tasks
- Receive accurate results and delivered on time (Individual and Team).

Receive Accurate Results
Overall Awards will be determined by "gun time". Age Group Awards will be determined by "net time". Team Awards will be determined by "net time". There will be no duplication of awards except in the event of a Master male or female (age 40 and over) winning their overall division of competition. In that case, we will award both the Overall and the Masters award to the runner. Individuals who win an overall award will not win their age division.
Individuals and team captains must show their race number or a picture ID to obtain award(s). Please be sure to view this I.D. If a dispute arises concerning race results or awards contact the ATM Award Coordinator or Award Tent Lead.
Results are complied by the ATM scoring contractor.
Ensure Timeliness
At 10:00 A.M. the ATM Award Tent Lead of the Individual/Team Awards Tent must go to the Scoring Tent and obtain 3 copies of the "Individual Age Division Results". At 10:30 the ATM Award Tent Lead will go to the Scoring Tent and obtain 3 copies of the "Team Division Results."
Accurately Distribute Awards
Follow these steps for the Award Tent (Individual & Team):
1. Post one copy on the A-Frame stand in front of Award tent.
2. Retain one copy for Award tent to verify award recipients.
3. Post overall results on A-frame stand when available at 0945 and 1015.
4. Process for distributing runner awards from Tent
5. Direct recipients to form a single line.
6. Verify the individual/team award and id (race number/photo id).
7. Locate and present the award and document the receipt on the award sheet.
8. At conclusion pack up all unclaimed awards
Follow these steps for the Award Ceremony (Stage):
1. Set up awards in order or presentation
2. Coordinate presentation process with ATM Announcer
3. Receive results for top winners 10:00 am and Teams 10:30 am
4. Assemble award winners at 11:00 in order of presentation and hand out position placard
5. Usher each winner on stage and present award to CG for presentation
6. Allow winners to pose for pictures and direct off stage
-For teams retrieve the display eagle from the teams.
-The team awards are off the stage
Note - awards will NOT be mailed to winners.
Be Familiar with ATM Responsibilities
- The Army Ten-Miler office will determine and order all awards NLT 1 June.
- ATM will prepare script for the Awards Announcer and rehearse CG awards ceremony movements.
- The ATM will inventory and inspect award eagles ATM will inventory all awards NLT 1 Aug. Replacement awards will be ordered if necessary.
- ATM office will transport all awards for the awards ceremony to the stage and will set up and organize awards in the Award Tent for pick up on 23 Oct 10.
- Individual and team awards will be placed and organized in the "Awards Tent".
- Awards for CG awards ceremony will be placed in order of presentation on the main stage.
- ATM Contractor to set up award stage with tables and awards backdrops on Saturday, 23 Oct 10.
Manage Problems
Problems should be moved off to the side and handled by the ATM Award Coordinator or Award Tent Lead.
Script ceremony
If you are working as coordinator, contact the ATM office for the script. It will be sent to you electronically.
Inventory and account for trophies.
As coordinator, you are responsible for inventory and accounting for trophies. Contact the ATM office to receive the complete list of awards.
