Army Ten-Miler - Finish Line Volunteers
Position Overview
The
role of the Finish Line Volunteer is to
ensure the integrity of the Finish Line and ensure there are no
unauthorized
personnel (badge access is required). You may need to verify that all
timing
equipment is placed IAW with USATF rules. Some Finish Line Volunteers
will serve as Traffic Monitors to ensure a continuous flow of runners
from the Finish
Line back through the Finish Chutes (Lane 36). As a traffic monitor,
you must be
familiar with medical protocol in the event of an emergency to clear
the third lane from the Finish Line to the main medical tent. You may
also assist in providing an organized water distribution system from
the Finish
Line to the Runner Finish Corral area and not cause any back-ups. You will report to the
Finish Line Coordinator

Time/Location Information
As a
finish line volunteer, you need to report to the Volunteer Check-in
Tent in the South Pentagon Parking Lot Lane 21 at 6:00 A.M. You will
report to the Finish Line Coordinator (South Pentagon Parking Lot Lane
29) to become familiar with the area. The first runner will cross the
Finish Line at about 8:50 AM.

- Keep runners moving beyond the Finish Line
- Assist with distributing water
- Report medical or other concerns to coordinator
- Assist with select timing
- Inspect the road
Task Detail
Control access limited to authorize personnel with credentials
Ensure no personnel are on the Finish Line without authorized credentials
Assist in directing runner traffic during an emergency
In the event of an emergency direct the runners to the left two lanes and leave the curb lane open for the medical vehicle.
Keep runners moving beyond the Finish Line
Maintain the runner traffic flow so no back-ups occur and runners keep moving
Assist in water distribution
After the runners cross the Finish Line support the water
distribution volunteers as the runners progress along the deceleration zone to
the Runner Finish Corral. (

Report medical or other concerns to coordinator
Make a
visual inspection of runners in distress. If you identify a potential
problem, alert the on site medical personnel stationed in the area.
Assist with Select Timing
Use a stop watch and manually capture the
times and race bibs of the the top 10 male and
females runners across the Finish Line.
Inspect the road
Visually inspect the road from Finish Line to the Runner Finish Corral. Ensure no equipment impedes the path of the runners.
Note: For 2009 new timing technology is ChronoTrack (D-Tag)
which disposable and does not get returned. There is no collection
point.
