Army Ten-Miler - Hooah Tent Volunteer

Overview
The Hooah Tent Zone (HTZ) is a race-day location where military units promote their Divisions through displays within the tents. The Hooah Tent Zone attracts both Soldiers and civilians alike to learn more about the various units that comprise all components of the U.S. Army.

As a Hooah tent volunteer, you'll discover the Hooah tent is more than a place. You'll find the Hooah tent creates a feeling of pride and passion you'll identify as the "Hooah Spirit." The "Hooah Spirit" is displayed through leadership, sustained performance and commitment.

Location and Schedule
The Hooah tent zone will be located in the Pentagon South Parking Lot. The Hooah tent will be assembled by contractors on Friday and Saturday. The coordinator will support tent occupants during set-up on Saturday. When you arrive to volunteer on Sunday (6:00 AM) , do not go directly to the Hooah Tent Zone. Be sure you register at the Volunteer Check-in and stand by in that area.

Task Overview
As a Hooah Tent Volunteer, you are responsible for:

  • Providing direction to race participants and visitors
  • Relaying information to coordinators on tent issues and electrical problems
  • Monitoring if trash needs to be removed and contact Tent Contractor for removal

Task Detail

Provide direction to race participants and visitors
The Hooah Tent Zone provides a showcase for esprit de corps and a location for Division and Organizational Pride. As a volunteer, you serve as a guide in this crossroads for civilians and soldiers. Encourage race-day attendees to enjoy all that the Hooah Tents offer - especially the abundance of food and entertainment.

You might also direct visitors to displays by Active Duty, National Guard, or Army Reserve. Or you might support a runner who is looking for some Rest and Recuperation following the challenge of the 10-miler. Maybe you will have an opportunity to share the "Hooah Spirit" - helping alter attitude and transform the thinking of visitors to the Hooah Tent Zone.

Relay information to coordinators on tent issues and electrical problems

Occupants may use an electric warmer, as each tent will have power. Each tent occupant is responsible for complying with the Pentagon reservation policies of no alcohol, open flames (sterno, grills, etc) or propane tanks. Ensure safety and security guidelines are followed and that generators are fully operational and grounded. If you identify any tent issues or electrical problems, bring these to the attention of the Hooah Tent Coordinator.

Monitor if trash needs to be removed (by contractor)
On race day, a contractor will have personnel to remove trash from each of the Hooah tents on a rolling schedule. At the conclusion of the awards ceremony (12 noon) on race day the ATM contractor will breakdown all Hooah Tents (1 PM). Work with contractors to ensure that trash is removed.
