A lot of buzz was created leading up to the race because it was the 25th anniversary. And the race lived up to the hype. Both the overall male and female event records were broken. Alene Reta finished in 46:59 smashing Maj. Dan Browne's record from 2004 of 47:32. The second place male finisher, Tesfay Girma, also came in under the 2004 record with a time of 47:20. Taking third place was Maj. Dan Browne finishing in 47:49. On the women's side, Samia Akbar broke the longstanding record of 56:20 from 1995 held by Susan Molloy.
The Brazilian Army came back ready to race and won their third consecutive International Cup. The Hawaii Active Duty Men took the grand prize of the Commander's Cup. Sgt. Sammy Ngatia a member of the Hawaii team is the male master event record holder. Fort Bragg Women won the Commander's Cup for the second straight year.
