The fifth year started under foggy and humid conditions with the temperature near 6o degrees. Near the Lincoln Memorial, two miles into the race, Michael Regan of Washington made a surprise move and broke away from the pack. Regan never looked back and tied the previous year's time set by General in 50:11. The former University of Virginia runner, Laura DeWald of Silver Spring, Md., easily won for the women in 58:20. Again, ranked as America's largest 10-mile race

1990 - 6th Annual Army Ten-Miler (Oct. 14, 1990)

The Army National Guard captured the Commander's Cup and two local stars went head to head. Two-time ATM winner, Darrell General and two-time MCM winner Jim Hage of Lanham, Md., battled each other and 70-degree temperatures in this race. Hage held on to claim victory and a new race record of 49:31. Russians Olga Markova and Albina Galiamova also ran head to head throughout the race and crossed the finish holding hands. The victory was given to Markova. Joyce Rankin returned to take back her masters title and Roger Clark, a member of the Royal Air Force Racing Team, claimed the men's master title.

1991 - 7th Annual Army Ten-Miler (Oct. 13, 1991)

This race was dedicated to the armed forces personnel who served and supported Operation Desert Shield-Desert Storm. The much anticipated rematch between local favorites, Darrell General and Jim Hage opened with both runners recording a 4:50 split at the first mile. After exchanging the lead several times it became a kick to the finish. General surged across the finish to reclaim the title and new race record with a 48:49 time. Shelley Burns of Falls Church, Va., edged out Kelly Watkins of Salt Lake City, Utah, by 18 seconds to claim the women's title. Roger Clark defended his masters title and Beverly Shooshan collected her third masters title. Fort Benning took the Commander's Cup and its bragging rights to the bank.

 1992 - 8th Annual Army Ten-Miler (Oct. 11, 1992)

The eighth Army Ten-Miler is once again America's largest 10-miler. David Clark of New York, dominated the race over the last five miles and won with 50:49. Army Specialist Robert Lee of Fort Lee, Va., was third in 41:46. Laurel Park of Ann Arbor, Michigan lead start to finish to win the women's title with Shelley Burns the '91 champion placing second. Bill Lee and Linda Mills both from Maryland take the masters titles and Hedy Marque, age 75, finished in 1:22:32. The Commander's Cup went to Germany with the U.S. Army Europe team.
